Shajarat Al-Hayat Kennels
About us, Shajarat Al Hayat and our breeding programHOW IT STARTED
After we moved in 2008 from Germany to Bahrain, we fell immediately in love with Salukis.
At that time and in this part of the world, you couldn’t simply go and buy a Saluki, most of them were owned and hidden by the Royal family or passionate private owner. If you were lucky, you would receive a Saluki as a gift.
We made a lot of research about the Salukis in Bahrain and were lucky to receive Salukis from Al Muzdaher Kennels, Al Nowader Kennels, Al Rashediah Kennels and Al Dana El Bahrain Kennels.
Over the years, we selected and assessed the Salukis that are today the foundation of our future breeding program.
SHAJARAT AL HAYAT
Salukis as the oldest known domesticated dog breed in the world, surviving in the harsh climate of the desert for thousands of years.
„Shajarat Al Hayat“ is the Arabic meaning of „Tree of Life“.
The mesquite lonely tree is a famous point of interest in the Kingdom of Bahrain and stands in the heart of Bahrain’s desert for more than 400 years.
Due to the fact that the tree stands amidst a hot and dry desert with no known water source, it has come to be known as the Tree of Life. The tree truly represents the magic of life and the power of nature. Both, its age and its location, definitely make this tree a survivor, which is considered to be a remarkable natural wonder of the world.
Tree of Life: his leaves a symbol of immortality and his roots a symbol of ancestry.
Which name would be more suitable for a Saluki kennel….
We moved with all Salukis to UAE in September 2021 with more space and facilities but the foundation dogs of our breeding are still from Bahrain.
„And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil“. Genesis 2:8-9
BREEDING
Shajarat Al Hayat Kennel has started with carefully selecting the best available Salukis in Bahrain to preserve the Bahraini / Middle Eastern bloodlines. We are raising and training the Salukis in their natural habitat.
In September 2021, we have moved to United Arab Emirates to provide more space and facilities to our Salukis.
As of 18th June 2016, Shajarat-Al-Hayat Kennel was registered in the Kingdom of Bahrain with FCI No 1/2016 and has been transferred at the 12.10.2021 to Sharjah Kennel Centre in the United Arab Emirates with Registration Number SKC-KR/051/2021.
Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision… We thank all our partners, owner and co-owner for all their hard work, dedication and support.
Apart from our pure Middle Eastern bloodlines, we were lucky to receive one Saluki from Al Dana El Bahrain Kennel (an outcross from Al Muzdaher Kennnel with two selected western bloodlines (Farousi Salukis, Australia and Al Firdous, France after they had proved their hunting skills), 1 Saluki with Israeli COO blood in combination with western racing and coursing lines and one Saluki from selected and healthy western lines, to prevent some lines becoming too inbred.
We are aiming to breed moderate, functional and healthy Salukis for beauty and performance.
Additionally, we are training and handling Salukis for other kennels.
All our Salukis have been assessed over the years by FCI acknowledged Saluki judges and participated successfully at Saluki Speciality and All Breed Shows in Bahrain. All lines have proved their hunting skills.
A special THANK YOU to Al Muzdaher Kennel, Al Nowader Kennel, Al Rashediah Kennel and Al Dana El Bahrain Kennel and to Shera Chuat (France) and Daniel Foran (U.K.) for all your support over the years and for your ongoing advise. Without your help, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
